Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) set up military tents and placed tactical vehicles on standby in anticipation of further demonstrations at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday.

The tents were set up behind the Nusantara Building, also known as the "turtle building," the main building of the parliamentary complex. Dozens of trucks transporting soldiers and TNI-owned Pindad Anoa tactical vehicles are also on standby in the area.

"There are (Army soldiers on standby). There are 500 personnel on standby. Everything is fully equipped," Indonesian Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak said during a meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday.

In addition, personnel from the Indonesian National Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) have also set up several tents behind the parliamentary complex. They are also on standby with protective equipment for crowd dispersal and control.

He also expressed the hope that the national condition will gradually return to normal after several riots in Jakarta and other regions.

Since August 25, 2025, a number of demonstrators have crowded the parliamentary complex to convey demands, one of which was the elimination of allowances for members of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

Then, on August 28, 2025, a coalition of labor unions also held a demonstration at the parliamentary complex to convey demands, including the elimination of outsourcing and the rejection of low wages.

However, in the afternoon, the parliamentary complex was visited by demonstrators from other groups, causing riots. The demonstrations, which turned violent, continued until August 29 and 30, 2025.

Then, President Prabowo Subianto ordered the authorities to take firm action against the riots.
