Jakarta (ANTARA) - The NasDem Party has suspended its cadres Ahmad Sahroni and Nafa Urbach from the House of Representatives (DPR), following recent political unrest in Indonesia.

"As of Monday, September 1, 2025, the NasDem Party's Central Executive Board (DPP) has suspended Ahmad Sahroni and Nafa Urbach from its faction in the DPR," party secretary-general Hermawi Taslim said in Jakarta on Sunday.

He added that the aspirations of the people must remain "the main reference in the struggle of the NasDem Party."

He also expressed condolences over the deaths of several people during recent protests, stressing that remarks made by certain lawmakers that offended public sentiment deviated from the party’s principles.

"The struggle of the NasDem Party is essentially a crystallization of the people's spirit, always rooted in the national goals of the Indonesian nation as stated in the preamble to the 1945 Constitution," Hermawi added.

Sahroni had earlier been removed from his post as deputy chair of DPR Commission III. His residence was vandalized and looted by a mob on Saturday amid protests against the parliament's monthly Rp50-million housing allowance, widely criticized at a time when many citizens are struggling to make ends meet.

The lawmaker had also sparked public outrage after calling those demanding the dissolution of the DPR the "dumbest people." Urbach, a singer-turned-politician, fueled backlash by defending the housing allowance, saying "it's not a salary increase."
