State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said public speculation over Polri's institutional position did not originate from the Police Reform Team.
"None," Prasetyo said when asked about the government's stance on the issue after attending the Military–Police Leadership Meeting in Jakarta.
He said President Prabowo Subianto continues to monitor the work of the Police Reform Team, which regularly reports its progress to the president, although not all of its processes are made public.
Prasetyo said the government's current priority is strengthening state institutions through relevant ministries and agencies, including the military and the police.
"A strong country requires a solid bureaucracy as well as professional defense and security institutions," he said. "We must strengthen them, not get trapped in institutional issues."
He added that recommendations from the Police Reform Team were not specifically discussed during the meeting.
In January, Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra floated ideas of placing the police under a ministry as part of reform discussions.
He said the concept would mirror the Defense Ministry’s oversight of the military.
Responding to the idea, Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo said Polri would be more ideally placed directly under the President.
