Deputy National Police Chief, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, stated that the joint patrols were carried out on the direct instructions of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
"On the orders of the National Police Chief, I have instructed all regional police (Polda) and resort police (Polres) to immediately carry out joint patrols with the TNI. The goal is to ensure public safety from the threat of rioters and anarchists," Prasetyo said in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
He emphasized that patrols are being carried out throughout residential areas.
"We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring there is no room for anarchy and vandalism. We are conducting patrols down to the neighborhood level to ensure public safety. Any perpetrators who attempt to exploit the situation to loot or damage facilities will be dealt with firmly," he said.
In addition to patrols in residential areas, the National Police are also strengthening security at police headquarters and dormitories throughout Indonesia.
According to Prasetyo, the step is crucial to safeguard state symbols and protect the families of members, detainees, and dangerous goods from falling into the hands of criminals.
He also urged the public to play an active role in maintaining environmental security by reporting any suspicious activity.
"We cannot work alone. Collaboration between TNI, Polri, local governments, community leaders, religious leaders, and youth is key. The public is our eyes and ears," he noted.
The Deputy Chief of Police asked the public to remain calm and not be provoked by false information.
He assured that TNI and Polri officers were on full alert and would act professionally, measuredly, and continue to uphold human rights in maintaining order.
"With routine patrols, persuasive measures, and public support, we are confident that the situation can quickly return to normal and be conducive," he remarked.
