Merak (ANTARA) - The state-owned ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is transforming Merak Port in Banten and Bakauheni Port in Lampung into green ports by installing large-capacity solar panels.
"We hope that the development of these green ports will protect the marine ecosystems around the ports," said ASDP President Director Heru Widodo in a written statement in Merak on Saturday.
He explained that the installation of large-capacity solar panels, along with a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and a hazardous waste treatment facility (B3), are innovations to conserve energy and protect the surrounding marine environment.
Widodo described the construction of these green ports as an important milestone in the company’s sustainability journey.
"The ports are not just transportation hubs, but centers of environmentally friendly innovation that provide broad benefits, from energy cost efficiency to protecting the earth for future generations," he said.

At Merak Port, solar panels with a capacity of 61.6 kWp have been installed on Piers 5 and 7, generating an estimated 81.94 MWh and 80.38 MWh per year.
Meanwhile, Bakauheni Port’s solar panels have a larger capacity of 196 kWp, installed on the gangway roofs of Piers 1 and 2, in addition to solar-powered lights that have been operational since 2023.
Beyond renewable energy, ASDP is also strengthening waste management.
Merak Port will be equipped with eight WWTP points, while Bakauheni will have nine main clusters.
"This is crucial for preventing marine pollution and protecting coastal communities," Widodo said.
ASDP Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin emphasized that the success of this environmental program is the result of collaboration with stakeholders.
She noted that it aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in addressing climate change and preserving marine ecosystems.
"Protecting the environment is not just a company’s responsibility, but a shared responsibility for the future of our children and grandchildren," she added.
