The Indonesian delegation conveyed this view during an inter-governmental meeting to establish a UNTOC review mechanism and protocols in Vienna, Austria, according to a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Vienna received by ANTARA News here on Friday.
Efforts to establish a review mechanism for UNTOC and the three protocols have been held since 2008 and face many challenges, particularly related to the issue of the participation of non-governmental organizations (NGO) and funding.
Indonesia invited the state party and the Secretariat of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to discuss and draw up action plans and targets to resolve the NGO issue and funding, as well as structuring the mechanism review.
It is expected that the road map can encourage the mechanism review of UNTOC and the establishment of the protocols.
Indonesias view is supported by some countries, particularly the developing countries.
The first inter-governmental meeting was convened to discuss the establishment of a mechanism review for UNTOC.
A mechanism review is commonly used for a multilateral convention to understand, evaluate and identify challenges, deficiencies and progress of implementation of the convention.
