We will see if efficiencies could be increased."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating minister for economic affairs Darmin Nasution has proposed maintaining the BI Rate at 7.5 percent for inclusion in the third package of economic policies to be released later.

He said here on Friday that the rate has been effective in curbing inflation and the current account deficit.

He noted that if banks would support industries, they could reduce their interest rates, but by not referring to the BI Rate.

He also said the problem would be discussed with the Financial Services Authorities (OJK).

Darmin noted that in the third package of economic policies, the government would regulate banking operational costs, because the proportion of banking administrative costs could be higher or even reach half of the savings costs.

"We will see if efficiencies could be increased. It is an efficiency matter," he said.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked Bank Indonesia as a monetary authority to reduce the BI Rate, now still at 7.5 percent, in a limited cabinet meeting on Thursday.
