Dr. Sukhyar is a very well-respected leader in both the public and private sectors in Indonesia, with more than three decades of experiences in the fields of mineral resources and energy. In 1981, Dr. Sukhyar joined the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia and had since served in a wide variety of executive roles, including the Director of Volcanology, the Secretary of Directorate General of Geology and Mineral Resources, the Assistant to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for Communication and Information Affairs, and the Head of Geological Agency (Indonesia) until 2015, when he was the Director General of Mineral and Coal. During his tenure with the Indonesian government, Dr. Sukhyar authored numerous policies, serviced as an advisor to a number of professional organizations and achieved many awards, including the Ultimate Service Performance Star (Bintang Jasa Utama) and the Merit Medal for Working Dedication (Wirakarya) by the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
In the private sector, Dr. Sukhyar served as the Commissioner of PT Timah Tbk, a listed state-owned tin mining company, the Commissioner of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, a state-owned oil company, and the President Commissioner of PT Antam Tbk, a publicly traded state-owned company engaged in nickel, gold and alumina mining and refining.
Dr. Sukhyar holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in Indonesia and a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in Earth Sciences from Monash University in Australia.
