Washington DC (ANTARA News) - Visiting Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged his United States counterpart Barack Obama to cooperate in the field of digital economy.

In a joint press statement with Obama at the Oval Office of the White House in Washington D.C. on Monday, President Jokowi remarked that the two countries can cooperate in developing digital economy as Indonesia offers huge potential in this field.

President Jokowi noted that Indonesia is currently one of the largest countries in the field of digital economy.

"Digital technology is Indonesias priority, and therefore, I invite the United States to cooperate with Indonesia in the field of digital economy," Jokowi noted.

The Indonesian head of state remarked that digital economy was the third issue discussed with Obama during the bilateral meeting that lasted an hour and ten minutes.

On the occasion, Jokowi thanked President Obama for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation.

"Indonesia welcomes the partnership strategy with the United States as it is a symbol of increased cooperation between the two countries," Jokowi pointed out.

He said Indonesia is the largest Muslim country and democracy in the world.

"We believe that Islam in Indonesia is able to play an important role in maintaining democracy and pluralism and is also against radicalism and terrorism," he affirmed

Jokowi pointed out that during the bilateral meeting with Obama, they also discussed Indonesias open economic policy and efforts to intensify economic cooperation with the United States and the world in general.

The two state leaders also discussed issues on the impacts of climate change and on Indonesia being the largest digital market in Southeast Asia.
