Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno Marsudi, discussed various efforts being made by the government to eradicate the scourge of terrorism at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) last Friday in Luxembourg.

According to a press release issued by Indonesias Foreign Affairs Ministry and received here on Monday, Retno was asked to specifically discuss the efforts being made in this regard during the meetings session.

Retno reiterated that eradicating terrorism needed a comprehensive approach, encompassing law enforcement, respect for human rights and participation of all stakeholders.

The minister said women empowerment also plays an important role in preventing radicalism and extremism as the women, particularly the mothers, can significantly contribute in instilling values of tolerance.

The Islamic organizations in Indonesia, such as Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, also promoted Islamic moderate values, pluralism and tolerance in daily life.

Retno said cooperation among the ASEM member countries can prevent extremism and terrorism.

She visited Luxembourg from November 5-6, 2015 to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the ASEM.

The ASEM was attended by several ministers and high officials from 53 ASEM partner countries. European Union Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini chaired the meeting.

The ASEM was aimed at discussing the preparations for the upcoming 11th ASEM to be held in Mongolia in 2016.

The meeting is an informal forum of the Asia-Europe cooperation body established in 1996 to promote cooperation in political, economic and socio-cultural sectors.
