Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla commemorated the Indonesian Heroes Day at the National Heroes Cemetery Park located in Kalibata, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.

The vice president arrived at the cemetery at 8 a.m. local time and led the commemoration ceremony.

During the ceremony, all participants, including several high-ranking officials and veterans, observed a moment of silence and heard the siren sound to commemorate the heroes struggle for independence on November 10, 1945.

The government also held prayers for the peace of the heroes souls.

Kalla, accompanied by Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa, offered flowers at several cemeteries, such as Adam Malik, Umar Wirahadikusuma, Sudharmono, Ratu Emma Norma Sudharmono, Hasri Ainun Habibie, Taufik Kemas, and Revolution Heroes.

President Joko Widodo also commemorated the Indonesian Heroes Day in the Surabaya City of East Java Province.

In order to honor the services offered by all national heroes, the Communication and Informatics Ministry has urged the people to observe 15 minutes of silence from 8:15 a.m. local time.(*)
