That building is private property."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A Monday morning hand grenade blast, which wounded a security guard and damaged the front door of Multi Meranti Graha in Duren Sawit area of East Jakarta, was not a terrorist attack but, rather, a criminal act, a police officer said.
"That building is private property. We assume that there is a small possibility that the explosion is related to an act of terrorism," Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Polices Detective Division Senior Commissioner Krishna Murti said.
Instead, the attack was likely related to a personal matter. However, police investigators plan to coordinate with the buildings management to learn the truth behind the explosion, he said.
In ensuring that the building was free from additional explosive devices, the local police bomb squad was deployed to check inside and outside the four-storey building, Murti said, adding that acts of terrorism usually target public facilities or areas with large crowds, but not personal property.
Preliminary findings from the police indicate that the person who threw the hand grenade into the buildings yard near the lobby might have been trained, he said.
Also, the safety-pin ring, fuse, and safety clip of the exploded grenade were found among the remnants of the broken glass, which had been collected and brought to a police forensics laboratory for further examination, he said.
Supriatna Maulana, the buildings security guard, sustained injuries to his chest, caused by broken glass. He was rushed to Pondok Kopi Islamic Hospital for medical treatment, Murti added.
