"I laud the openness of the proceedings at the MKD, and it will enable us to know what happens in the Indonesian nation," Kalla remarked.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla, representing himself and the president, submitted the case of House Speaker Setya Novanto, accused of demanding a stake in Freeport Indonesia and profiteering, to the House of Representatives Ethics Council (MKD).
"I laud the openness of the proceedings at the MKD, and it will enable us to know what happens in the Indonesian nation," Kalla remarked at the Nusantara Building V here on Thursday.
The vice president made the statement after attending the opening of the National Conference on Corruption Eradication at the Nusantara Building V.
The case of House Speaker Novanto proves that despite significant efforts to eradicate corruption, some Parliament and government officials have no fear of committing corruption, Kalla pointed out.
"There are still rogue elements in the House and government who are not afraid to commit corruption," he remarked.
When questioned about Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitans name being linked to a recorded conversation of Novanto, Kalla said he had handed it over to the MKD for further investigation.
The vice president explained that after the process in the MKD is complete, and there is a legal implication on the contents of the conversation, then further action would be taken.(*)
