Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The death toll from a train-minibus collision at the Angke railroad crossing in West Jakarta on Sunday rose to 17 after four victims treated at Atma Jaya and Sumber Waras Hospitals were pronounced dead.

The bodies of the four victims were later taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta for identification, spokesman for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Musyafak said on Sunday.

Chief of the Tambora Police Precinct in West Jakarta Commissioner Wirdhanto H said earlier 13 people who were killed in the accident had been taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.

The minibus carried 24 passengers when it collided with the electric train.

The other victims who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Sumber Waras, Tarakan and Atma Jaya Hospitals.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred after the minibus forced its way to cross the railway gate as it was to be closed.(*)
