Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives Ahmad Rais said Donald Trump's statement about preventing Muslims' immigration has undermined American values on religious freedom.

"Freedom, liberty, justice and equality have long been treasured in American culture as core values. Talk of a ban on Muslims entering the United States is in conflict with the US Constitution," Rais said here on Tuesday.

Therefore, Rais noted, Trump should be brought before a court in the United States.

"If Trump had been living in Indonesia, he would have to be investigated by the police because of regulations on hate speech," Rais said.

Meanwhile, Istiqlal Mosque's grand imam Ali Mustafa Yaqub said Trump's idea, instead of solving any problems, had only created new issues.

"We should not be too worried over Trump's statement because he is not the president. He has no power," Yaqub affirmed.

With regard to terrorism, Yaqub pointed out that terrorism cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nationality or civilization.

"Terrorism is an extraordinary crime and it should be addressed comprehensively through regional and international efforts," he said.

"Islam does not tolerate violence or imposition of one's will on others by force. Killing a person is an extraordinary sin," he stated.

According to Reuters, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Monday called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States.

"We have no choice," Trump said at a rally in South Carolina, warning of more Sept 11-style attacks if stern measures are not taken.

Trump, the billionaire developer and former reality TV star who frequently uses racially charged rhetoric, called for a complete ban on Muslims entering the United States "until our countrys representatives can figure out what is going on."

"Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous level of threat it poses, our country cannot be the victim of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad and have no sense of reason or respect for human life," Trump said.
