Jakarta (Antara News) - The National Police stated that recent investigations into an attempt to smuggle in 40,000 ecstasy pills showed the involvement of a drug kingpin who controls illicit goods distribution from the Netherlands.

"The man who calls the shots in these cases is LM, also known as Boncel. He was an Indonesian but is now a Dutch national," Deputy Director of Crime and Investigation Division of the National Police, Senior Commissioner Nugroho Aji, said here on Friday.

According to the officer, Boncel runs many networks, including the one run by drug lord Freddy Budiman.

Police has so far linked 12 cases of narco-trafficking to Boncel.

He is known as the supplier of ecstasy and CC4 to Indonesia.

Police suspected Boncel has fled to Belgium.

Boncel was suspected as a producer of the illicit drugs in Belgium and Netherlands.

Previously, police had arrested seven people for being in possession of 40,000 ecstasy pills.

They were arrested from various regions in Indonesia, such as Medan (North Sumatra), Jakarta and Tangerang (Banten).

On February 2, police tailed AZ, who was bringing in packages of ecstasy pills from Medan to Jakarta.

The packages were brought in a bag and transported by a public bus.

On February 3, AZ arrived in Jakarta and delivered the packages to FD in the bus pool in Tangerang, Banten.

The two were arrested during the transaction. The packages contained 40,000 illicit pills wrapped in eight smaller packages in plastic bags.

On the same day, two more suspects, namely JF and BS, were arrested in Medan.

JF played a role as a supplier and was also someone who controlled the distribution, while BS task was to recruit couriers and supervise the transportation.

After questioning the four suspects, police was led to the other three suspects, namely HA, MY and MS, who were later arrested on February 5.

HA, who would receive packages from FD, was arrested in front of the BRI Bank in Tangerang.

Meanwhile, MY and MS, who were also receivers, were arrested from a hotel in Central Jakarta.

Aside from the packages of 40,000 illicit pills, police also confiscated 23 grams of crystal methamphetamine and an additional 52 ecstasy pills.

The suspects may face up to death penalty.***2***
