"The e-government center will serve as the development strategy to boost cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea," Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi remarked during the signing of the cooperation agreement with South Korean Home Affairs Minister Hong Yun Sik.
Chrisnandi noted that Indonesia and South Korea realized the importance of deepening bilateral relations in all fields of e-governance within the framework of bureaucratic reforms.
According to the minister, e-governance is the best way to ensure transparency in state administration in the globalization era amid high public expectations with regard to improving public services.
"Through the sharing of knowledge on e-governance, it is expected that the ideals of President Jokowi to build an effective and transparent world-class governance would soon be realized," he explained.
The plan to develop an e-government cooperation center came to light during a joint declaration signed on December 4, 2006, between the presidents of the two countries on partnership strategies to boost friendship and cooperation.
The declaration was then followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of State Administration and Bureaucratic Reforms and the Ministry of Security and Public Administration of Korea (MOSPA) and the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs of the Republic of Korea (MOGAHA) for the July 2013-December 2014 period.
On August 24, 2015, an MoU was inked on intensifying cooperation for boosting e-governance through the development of an e-government cooperation center.
This office will operate for a period of three years from 2016 to 2018. (*)
