Makassar (ANTARA News) - Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla attended that the National Waste Day 2016 which took place at the Celebes Convention Center here on Saturday.

The vice president was present at the event in the company of numerous ministers, such as Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, and Cooperatives and Small Medium Business Minister AA Gede Ngurah Puspayoga, along with South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

Garbage management was the right solution to garbage problem that reached 64 million tons in 2015, Siti Nurbaya Bakar said on the occasion.

The use of plastics contributed to 11 percent of the total amount of garbage generated, she said.

"If the garbage is not managed properly, it will lead to disaster for all of us," Siti Nurbaya said.

In the National Waste Day 2016, 21 mayors and the Indonesian Peritel Association (Aprindo) will sign a joint commitment on the Familiarization and Trial of No Free Plastic Bag Application.

On that occasion, the Vice President also witnessed the signing of the collective agreement and the launch of the Waste Bank Integration with SME Digital Environment Village by Ministers Siti Nurbaya and AA Gede Ngurah Puspayoga.

The Vice President also signed a cover stamp on the National Waste Concern Day 2016.
