President Jokowi had taken the right step in line with the country`s 1945 Constitution, which opposes all kinds of colonization in the world, Jazuli Juwaini said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chairman of the Prosperous Justice Party faction at Parliament Jazuli Juwaini said he appreciates strong commitment shown by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) against Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Jokowi called for stronger pressure on Israeli to force it to end occupation of Palestinian territory in a two day extraordinary summit meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) ending here on Monday.

Jokowi also asked all Muslim countries to boycott Israeli goods.

Jazuli Juwaini said President Jokowi had taken the right step in line with the countrys 1945 Constitution, which opposes all kinds of colonization in the world.

He said Jokowi has repeated the commitment declared by the countrys first President Soekarno to support Palestine to regain its independence.

He said President Jokowi had spoken about the aspirations of the Indonesian people in giving a strong signal that OIC member countries are united in pressuring the United Nations into giving an ultimatum to Israel to end its occupation of Palestine.

Jazuli Juwaini quoted President Jokowi as saying that "the world of Islam still has unpaid debt in independence to the Palestinian people. The Palestinian struggle is our struggle. God willing we still live to witness Palestinian independence."

The extraordinary summit meeting of OIC ended with a resolution by 49 member countries condemning the Israeli occupation of Palestine and Jerusalem since 1967.

The OIC regretted that Palestine has remained an occupied country 60 years after the Asia Africa Conference.(*)
