Taipei, Taiwan (ANTARA News) - Almost all migrant workers' usersw in Taiwan considers Indonesian workers, especially in the domestic sector, a part of their own family, the Chairman of Global Workers Organization (GWO), Karen Hsu, said here Saturday.

"People who employ Indonesian migrant workers love them because they have a good attitude, do not stage rallies and work well," Hsu said.

She had a female Indonesian worker and she worked very well as a domestic worker, she said.

"I just could not take care of the housework on my own, but they could do it professionally," she added.

Hsu appreciated the presence of domestic workers, especially those from Indonesia because they were diligent, and loyal.

"I felt lost when my Indonesian housekeeper had to return to her home country to get married," she said, after signing a cooperation agreement with the Indonesian News Agency, ANTARA, on the dissemination of news concerning migrant workers.

"My son was comfortable with Indonesians. Even my daughter, who is 24 years old, was always with her when at home, or when shopping, because she was like a family member," Hsu remarked.

The GWO has been imparting skill training to migrant workers, including those from Indonesia, in various fields including news writing and broadcasting, Hsu explained.

In the near future, GWO will organize literature and broadcasting competitions for Indonesian workers about their activities and lives in Taiwan with a grand prize of 100,000 Taiwan dollars.

There are 238,000 Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan working in various jobs including the domestic sector, according to the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office.

Working closely with the office, GWO also gives regular mental guidance by bringing Islamic teachers to encourage them, especially to deal with the cultural differences.

Some time ago there was information that the Indonesian government would impose a moratorium on sending workers abroad.

The Taiwanese were so concerned about the information because they are in need of workers, but it turned out the moratorium did not apply to migrant workers to Taiwan. Taiwan was very happy and thanked Indonesia.(*)
