"The government and the people of Indonesia offer their sympathies and condolences to the government of Ecuador and the families of the victims of the deadly earthquake," according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Late on Saturday, a strong earthquake, measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale, struck off the coast of Ecuador, sending confused residents streaming into the streets of capital Quito.
Until Sunday, the death toll from the earthquake had risen to 246, and some 2,527 people had been injured.
However, according to information provided by the Indonesian Embassy in Quito, there were no reports of Indonesian nationals among the victims of the devastating earthquake.
Ecuador Vice President Jorge Glas stated that the governments priority was to continue its search for the survivors trapped in the rubble and to help those injured in the quake, which has generated at least 189 aftershocks of varying strength.(*)
