Ambon, Maluku, May 12 (Antara) - The slogan of Ambon, as the city of music in Maluku Province, is believed to revive the spirit of its musicians, according to local Culture and Tourism Office Chief Henry Sopacua.

Since Ambon was declared the city of music, efforts have been made to encourage musicians to create works of art.

"Various attempts were made in order to realize Ambon as a city of music and to create a slogan that reflects its true essence," Sopacua stated here on Wednesday.

He said the efforts will inspire artists and communities to strive harder to create works of art that will draw public acclaim.

"The declaration of Ambon as a city of music has not been followed up by developing supporting facilities, but it is expected to have a positive impact on the artists," he remarked.

Sopacua stated that in order to realize Ambon as a city of music, monthly music festivals will be organized to serve as a platform to channel the interests and talents of Ambonese in music, in addition to offering space to musicians through the city corner harmony program.

"The city corner harmony program will be held alternately in each sub-district every month in order to offer space to people to channel their talents," he noted.

According to Sopacua, music is a medium that can transcend all barriers and unify the people.

He emphasized that music can play an important role in promoting brotherhood and peace in Ambon, in particular, and Maluku, in general.

"However, all this can be realized through hard work of all the components to maintain and promote peace as well as to improve the lifestyle of the people in Ambon," Sopacua added. (*)
