Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) and State-Logistics Agency (Bulog) have forged a partnership to launch the Affordable Food Movement nationwide next week in a bid to stabilize rice prices in the market.

In a statement cited in Jakarta on Friday, Polri’s Inspector General of Supervision Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo stated that the food movement follows findings of rice being sold above the highest retail price (HET) in several regions.

He remarked that the initiative also aims to accelerate the Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices (SPHP) program, which has so far distributed only eight thousand tons of rice out of this year’s 1.3-million-ton target.

"The Polri shares the responsibility to ensure the validity of data on stocks and the accuracy of distribution by intensively coordinating with Bulog. Our plan is to echo this movement in regions, and most importantly, prevent any misappropriation," Prasetyo emphasized.

The police officer also affirmed that his side would help boost the distribution of SPHP rice by collaborating not only with Bulog but also with cooperatives established under the Red and White Village Cooperatives program.

He stated that each consumer is limited to 10 kilograms of SPHP rice, but this provision does not apply to certain regions, such as Maluku and Papua, where the rice is sold in 50-kilogram packages.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the police would mobilize local units to help disseminate relevant information and oversee the distribution process.

He also said that the public can report irregularities via the hotline 110 or the Klik SPHP digital application.

Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhan welcomed the strategic collaboration forged with the police.

"Support from the Polri can help us boost our distribution capacity," he said, noting that Bulog will provide facilities for police-run cooperatives as distribution partners.
