Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The South Jakarta Police personnel seized 2,128 pairs of shoes that carried a forged branding of "Nike" and were suspected to have been imported from Guangzhou, China.

"We arrested two suspects, identified by initials J and S, for allegedly distributing the shoes and for trading in counterfeit products," the Chief of South Jakarta Metro Police Office, Senior Commissioner Tubagus Ade Hidayat, said here on Tuesday.

The investigation showed that the two suspects had been carrying on this illegal business for one and a half month.

Previously, the authority had received report about brand forging from a license holder of the Nike brand and from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

The counterfeit shoes were sold on the street for Rp300,000 to Rp800,000 (one US Dollar= Rp13,500), while the price of the original shoes ranges from one million rupiah to three million rupiah per pair.

The suspects face a maximum sentence of one year in jail and/or Rp200 million worth of fine.
