Ambon (ANTARA News) - A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale jolted Saumlaki, the capital of Southwest Maluku, on Monday at 3:20 a.m. local time.

The quakes epicenter was located at 7.44 degrees southern Latitude and 129.07 degrees of eastern longitude, and at a depth of 121 km below sea level.

The tremor did not have potential to trigger a tsunami.

Maluku Province is prone to earthquakes as it lies on the convergence point of three of the regions major tectonic plates - Pacific, Indo Australia and Eurasia.
