Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Maritime and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has called on local governments across the country to help traditional fishermen to boost their welfare.

"I also appeal to the local governments to encourage all traditional fishermen to land all their fish catch in Indonesian fishing ports to avoid transshipment," she remarked here on Monday.

Speaking in connection with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)s directive to ensure synergy across sectors and between central and regional governments, Pudjiastuti urged the local governments to oversee the program during the planning, implementation, and realization phases.

The minister has forecast that in future, there will be no stalled assets associated with the marine and fisheries sector.

In fact, the Indonesian Traditional Fishermen Association (KNTI) wants the government to help them in various areas, especially related to the issue of limited capital for fishermen.

"Give assistance and facilitate the fishermen or cooperatives that have limited capital and information," KNTI Chairman Riza Damanik stated.
