"The government finds it necessary to continue the NKRI expedition in 2017 in the South Papua Corridor that covers Merauke," Mulyono remarked during the closing ceremony of the NKRI Expedition in the West Papua Corridor at the Armys Special Forces Headquarters in Cijantung, East Jakarta, on Friday.
According to the army chief of staff, the 6th Expedition of NKRI in West Papua ran safely, smoothly, and successfully, and so, it is expected that the results of the findings can be used by academics, students, soldiers, local and central governments, and relevant ministries and agencies.
"Thanks to all the organizers and initiators who have helped to conduct the expedition in West Papua that ran successfully," noted Gen. Mulyono.
Mulyono pointed out that during the NKRI Expedition of the West Papua Corridor in 2016, some 386 new findings were made, information on 3,611 species of flora and fauna was collected, 811 damaged areas were identified, and some 4,580 trees were planted.(*)
