Chief of Paniai Police Office Adjunct Senior Commissioner Leonard Nabu said Saturday that the pilot of the ill-fated helicopter, retired Senior Commissioner Kasmana, was killed during the accident, while three of the passengers were injured.
The injured victims, Asmar, Ajo and Darwis, were being evacuated from the crash site.
The helicopter, which departed from Nabire for Deguwo, crashed into River Deguewo on Bogobaida Sub-district.
One of the survivors, Asmar, who has been taken to Nabire District Hospital, said that before the crash a strong wind hit the helicopter and it lost control.(*)
