"Both climbers departed from Malang and entered the Ranu Pani Village to directly climb Mount Semeru without informing the Ranu Pani Climbing Post," Kennedie said here on Thursday.
According to Kennedie, the partner of Du Creaux, Alice Guignard, reported to the national park rangers at the Ranu Pani Post on June 7 that her friend had gotten lost during their climbing activity.
The officer noted that Du Creaux is a 26 year old Swiss citizen.
"We have reported to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry that we need to coordinate with the respective embassies of both foreigners, who conducted the illegal climbing activity at Mount Semeru," the Chief said.
The officer predicted that both foreigners had entered the hiking trails surreptitiously. Kennedie added that the ticketing post that checks the equipment of all climbers opens at 08.00 a.m.
According to Alice, the two of them had avoided going to the Ranu Pani Post because they wanted to avoid the complex requirements and expensive ticket prices.
"They had also conducted illegal climbing without reporting it to the Ranu Pani Post. This was Alice's confession," Kennedie said.
Kennedie said after receiving the report, the national park ranger immediately launched search efforts to save Du Creaux.
The Chief also said his institution had deployed 20 persons for an advance team consisting of rescuers, local climbers and porters at several points to search Du Creaux since last Wednesday. (*)
