I always said about this (land clearance case) can hamper the development for 20 years."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has promised to complete the infrastructure development project, particularly the uncompleted toll road, to prevent the recurrence of congestion on the toll road segments of Pejagan-East Brebes.

The president made the remarks on the sidelines of his visit to the Banten Province on Monday, adding that he will help expedite the completion of the unfinished toll road segments.

Jokowi admitted that Pejagan-East Brebes is one of the toll road segments mostly used by the homebound travelers towards the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan.

"Although the gates in the middle of the toll road have been removed, (cars) still have to queue up. But if the toll road has already connected the regions of Batang to Semarang, Semarang to Solo, Solo to Ngawi, and Ngawi to Kertosono, then the traffic will run smoothly (and there will be no more congestion)," the president noted.

The president further said that the land clearance problem has been hampering the infrastructure development projects so far.

Similar land clearance problem had also marred the Trans-Java toll road development, Jokowi explained.

"I always said about this (land clearance case) can hamper the development for 20 years. I think this case must be solved. God willing, we will resolve it within the next two years," the president added.

This year, the number of homebound travelers for Lebaran is expected to reach 17,698,484, up from 17,404,575 in 2015.

President Jokowi has also instructed the concerned ministries and institutions to make better preparations for a smooth and safe exodus, which is locally known as "mudik."
