This is not a caught-red-handed case, therefore, KPK has asked for an approval from the court."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has raided the office of Southeast Sulawesi governor and houses linked to the corruption case with the governor as a suspect.
KPK has charged Governor Nur Alam with corruption in the process of licensing PT AHB (Anugerah Harisma Barakah) for nickel explorations in the regencies of Buton and Bombana during his previous term of 2009-2014.
"Today KPK raided a number of places including the governors office in Kendari, the office of the Law Bureau of the provincial administration in Kendari, the office of the region energy and mineral resource service in Kendari and a number of houses in Kendari and Jakarta linked to the case," KPK deputy chairman Laode M Syarif said here on Tuesday.
"All those places are believed to have connections with the case that KPK investigators decided that the raids are necessary. This is not a caught-red-handed case, therefore, KPK has asked for an approval from the court," Laode said.
He said he could not yet give the results of the raids, adding the investigators have not reported the results.
Nur Alam could be imprisoned for up to 20 years if found guilty with a fine of up to Rp1 billion.
Laode said KPK now gives special attentions to corruption cases in the mining sector in addition to taxation cases.
"Hopefully this will serve a lesson to other regional leaders as well as officials of higher level agencies," he said.
He said KPK is yet to set a date for Nur Alam interrogations. ***2*** (AS/a014)
