Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - The F16C/D Fighting Falcon Block 52ID aircraft will be replacing the F16A/B aircraft at the Roesmin Nurjadin airbase and securing the air defense of the Natuna region.

"The F16C/D will be operating from Roesmin Nurjadin and defend the national aerial territory of the Natuna islands," Roesmin Nurjadin air base Commander, Air Commodore Henri Alfiandi, said here on Friday.

He further said there are nine units of the F16C/D aircraft at the airbase, while the others are still at the Iswahyudi airbase, Madiun (East Java) for the installation of air brakes or establishment.

"If all is already set, all the F16C/D aircraft will be operating from the Roesmin Nurjadin air base," Henri said.

According to him, the air brakes installation is important, considering Roesmin Nurjadins runway is about 2,600 meters long.

"Although it is enough, we actually need a 3,000-meter long runway to optimize air operations," Henri said.

The Roesmin Nurjadin air base has two air squadrons of 12 and 16. The Air Squadron 12 is reinforced by Hawk 100/200.(*)
