Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al Maliki has once again acknowledged the continuing contribution and support that Indonesia has been extending for the Palestinian independence.

It was stated in a press release issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received here on Friday.

Minister Al Malikis appreciation of Indonesia came in a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi on the sidelines of the Ministerial meeting for preparing for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Margarita Island, Venezuela.

At the meeting, the two ministers discussed the importance of international support for the Palestinian struggle.

Indonesia was among the countries that participated in Paris Meeting on June 3, 2016, which discussed efforts to achieve peace between Israel and Palestine.

The Palestinian issue was also discussed by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister and her French counterpart in a bilateral meeting between the two countries on July 6, 2016.

"Indonesia has been and will be consistently bringing the issue of Palestinian independence to the attention of various meetings so that it receives international attention and support," Minister Retno said.

As for Indonesias support to the Palestinians, she asserted that Indonesia continues to provide assistance and technical cooperation to the Palestinians.

Minister Retno said support for the Palestinians not only comes from the government but also from all sections of the Indonesian people.

"The Indonesian people really support the Palestinians struggle. We can see it reflected in the hospital in Gaza which has been funded by Indonesians," she added.

Indonesia also participated in the NAM Palestine Committee meeting in Margarita Island on September 15, 2016.(*)
