Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The attorney general office said it will provide legal aid for West Sumatra high prosecutor Farizal, who is charged by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) with receiving bribe money over case of illegal imports of sugar not meeting the Indonesian National Standards (SNI).

"We have named a team of lawyers from Jakarta to coordinate with the West Java prosecution office," Junior Attorney General for General Crime Noor Rachmad said here on Friday.

Noor said he did not know the number of the team members as coordination is yet to be made with the West Sumatra prosecution office.

The attorney general office already suspended Farizal for allegedly receiving Rp350 million in bribe in a case with suspect a businessman Xaveriandy Susanto.

Xaveriandy Susanto himself was already named suspect in a related case when he was caught red handed bribing Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) Irman Gusman.

Irman Gusman has been dismissed from his position after he was also named suspect by KPK.

Farizal was the chairmen of a team of public prosecutors in the trial of Xaveriandy Susanto in the case of illegal imports and sales of sugar not meeting the SNI .

Deputy chairman of KPK Alexander Marwata said Xaveriandy Susanto bribed Farizal Rp365 million hoping to help him out of the legislation mire.

The Distric Court of Padang is still investigating the case of illegal imports of sugar.

The illegal imports and bribery surfaced followed the arrest of Irman Gusman KPK Xaveriandy Susanto in Jakarta.(*)
