We need to have a collective collaboration and cooperation to implement the 2020 Interpol initiatives.Nusa Dua (ANTARA News) - Indonesias Police Chief General Tito Karnavian has said that the 85th General Assembly of International Police (Interpol) would discuss the efforts to strengthen cooperation among police institutions throughout the world in the fight against global security threats.
"We will talk about the goals to strengthen the foundation in response to global threats which are now increasing and more complex," Karnavian said in his opening remarks during the Interpol General Assembly at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) here on Monday.
The global threats include terrorism. At least 1,000 people have joined ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
International cooperation in legal enforcement and prevention is needed to deal with ISIS, he said.
Efforts to counter radicalism need regional as well as international cooperation, including diplomacy, he added.
In addition to terrorism, the meeting would also discuss transnational crimes such as money laundering, drug trafficking and corruption.
These serious crimes need international cooperation involving governments as well as NGOs, the general noted.
President of Interpol Mireille Ballestrazzi said the General Assembly was expected to develop a road map for global police to deal with security threats such as terrorism.
"We need to have a collective collaboration and cooperation to implement the 2020 Interpol initiatives," Ballestrazzi said.
Indonesian Vice President M Jusuf Kalla officially opened the Interpol General Assembly, which will be held from November 7 to 10, 2016.
Some 1,000 participants from 164 countries would attend the annual meeting.
