Lima (ANTARA News) - Global social media networking service provider Facebook has offered connectivity program in Indonesian remote areas.

"It happened that in the meeting just now, Mark (Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO) cited Indonesia as an example for development of a connectivity program by using drones," Vice President M Jusuf Kalla said after an APEC meeting presenting the Facebook CEO as speaker.

The government could facilitate the program to be developed by Facebook, he added.

Besides improving connectivity in remote areas, the program offered by Facebook could also boost small and medium scale businesses, he remarked.

Connectivity is crucial to promote online information on markets and products, according to Kalla.

The Facebook connectivity program could integrate economic development comprehensively, he added.

In the APEC Summit, Mark Zuckerberg urged world leaders to invest in connecting citizens to the internet.

Zuckerberg promoted the role internet connectivity plays in lifting communities out of poverty, improving global health and supplementing education across the world.

He also called on more world leaders to sign the "Connectivity Declaration", an initiative he proposed at the U.N. last year, which aims to provide an internet connection for the entire world by 2020.

The APEC Leaders Meeting held in Lima, Peru, was attended by leaders of the groupings 21 member economies, including US President Barack Obama and China President Xi Jin-ping.

President of Peru Pedro Pablo Kuczynski is expected to hand over the APEC chairmanship to President of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang.
