Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his appreciation towards Ulemas and officials involved in the peaceful rally and mass prayers in the National Monument complex in Central Jakarta on Friday.

The president, accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, carried out Friday prayers along with participants of the rally.

Despite rainfall, the president, vice president and a number of ministers walked their way from the Presidential Palace complex to the Monument complex.

After the prayers, Jokowi delivered his statement, in which he expressed his gratitude towards the Ulemas and the masses for carrying out their activities peacefully.

Jokowi and his entourage made their way back to the Presidential Palace soon after delivering the speech.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, State Secretariat Minister Pramono Anung, Chief Military Commander Gatot Nurmantyo and National Police Chief Tito Karnavian were seen accompanying Jokowi and Kalla.

Participants of the peaceful rally were enthused by Jokowi and Kallas presence, and they also maintained law and order at the rally.(*)
