The quake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, Mochamad Riyadi, head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Center of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, said.
The tremors epicenter was located at 7.75 degrees southern latitude and 128.01 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 173km below sea level in the Banda Sea, some 357km northwest of Saumlaki.
The earthquake was felt by the inhabitants of the Tanimbar Islands, Kai Kecil Island, Damar Island, Moa Island, Timor Island in East Nusa Tenggara Province, and Wetar as well as the Alor Islands.
The intensity of the tremor was recorded at III MMI (Modified Marcelli Intensity).(*)
