"Drugs and radicalism are the real threats to Indonesia's defense," he noted during a seminar themed "Fighting for Welfare in the Framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)" in Jakarta, Monday.
He further pointed out that civil defense programs are prepared to instill the idea of protecting the nation in the minds and hearts of Indonesian citizens.
"Before other parties instill their ideologies and information, we should first promote the idea of protecting and defending the nation," he remarked.
He believed that the ideological and information warfare being waged through the dissemination of ideas and fake information date back to the First World War.
Today, military wars are not being fought as much, as they have been transformed into conflicts through information and ideological warfare.
Civil defense training programs are being conducted to not only prepare the nation's cadres to fight with firearms but to also help them imbibe values to protect the nation, he said.
The values of civil defense lie in the love for the nation, a sense of national consciousness, belief in the five ideologies (Pancasila) as the foundation of the country, willingness to sacrifice for the nation, and the ability to implement civil defense measures.
First Admiral Faisal spoke at the first session of the seminar, organized by the Indonesian Worker Association at the Adhyana Auditorium in Wisma ANTARA, Central Jakarta.
