Batam (ANTARA News) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) office in Riau Islands Province has seized 10.64 kilograms of dried hashish during a crackdown on drug traffickers in the Sagulung area in the industrialized island of Batam.

During the crackdown conducted on Mar 1 in the Pesona Mantang housing complex in Batam City, BNN officers arrested two people, identified by their initials as SB and RB, on charges of possessing 900 grams of hashish, Head of the BNN Office in Riau Islands Nixon Manurung stated here on Friday.

On the same day, BNN officers also arrested a man, identified by his initial as F, for allegedly possessing 990 grams of hashish. The BNN officers arrested F after interrogating SB and RB, he noted.

The BNN officers arrested two suspects at Fs house in Batu Merah, Batam, later in the day. The two, identified by their initials as Z and M, are suspected of being drug couriers.

"We seized 8,750 grams of hashish from the two suspects. The hashish was brought from Aceh," he revealed.

All suspects are charged with violating paragraph (2) of Article 114, paragraph (2) of Article 111, adj. paragraph (1) of Article 132 of Law No. 33 of 2009. If found guilty, they could face death penalty or life imprisonment.
