Sambas, W. Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo has expressed hope for regional governments that have direct borders with neighboring countries, to encourage local products competitiveness for the export market.

"I think the head of local governments, governors or regents should prepare their products to make them competitive, with better quality, so that they can be accepted in the export market. From here (Aruk) passing through Kuching (Malaysia) to other countries," the President said after the launch of the Aruk integrated cross-border post (PLBN) in Sambas district of West Kalimantan, on Friday.

PLBN Aruk is one among three integrated PLBN in West Kalimantan, which borders with Malaysia. Two other newly renovated posts are PLBN Entikong in Sanggau district and PLBN Nanga Badau in the Kapuas Hulu district.

"The cross-border post in Aruk is situated in the Sambas district of West Kalimantan and we hope that similar with other cross-border posts, it should become a point of economic growth, especially to give access for local products and other Indonesian products to neighboring countries," the President said.

Some products exported from Sambas are fish, crude palm oil, orange, pepper and dragon fruit.

In addition, the President said, an integrated cross-border post is expected to reduce smuggling in borders.

"Cross-border posts with adequate facility, an online checking system, I think this can stop smuggling. Thus the local economy could grow, and most importantly we could see who would enjoy this growth. Therefore, I have said that even distribution of the economy is important, it could be enjoyed by all people, not only certain people," Jokowi said.

Also attending the launch were First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Public Works Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, Health Minister Nila Moeloek, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Military Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo, Army Chief of Staff General Mulyono and West Kalimantan Governor Cornelis.
