Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will soon issue a new economic policy package on logistics mainly to speed up loading and unloading at ports to reduce dwelling time of ships.

"The police package is being intensively prepared involving a number of related ministries. Logistic cost is still high in Indonesia. It is not yet optimum at ports," Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economy Lukita Dinarsyah Tuwo said as a key speaker at the Meeting of Asias Infrastructure Needs here on Tuesday.

Lukita said it is not easy to cut logistic costs, but he said he was optimistic the policy package could help reduce the logistic cost that would have its effect on the economic cost.

"Our target is clear, we want to reduce the logistic cost, which is relatively high compared in other countries in this region," he said.

The Indonesian economic development is still hampered by problem in logistic systems that need addressing. Among the logistic systems that need improvement are related to portal service Indonesia National Single Window (INSW) and dwelling time.

Redesigning logistic system is important as it is closely in line with connectivity and efficiency of tariff to prevent high economic cost.

Since September 2015, the government has issued a series of economic policy packages up to the 14th marked with massive deregulation measures aimed at creating a more conducive investment climate and stronger competitiveness.

The government has issued 99 percent of the regulations of the policy packages that the impact of the series of policy packages would be felt in in 2017.(*)
