Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government of Indonesia has called on Indonesian citizens to increase their awareness of the security situation in Belgium and Luxembourg following the terror attacks in Britain.

With regard to the latest developments related to the security situation in the UK, the Indonesian Embassy in Brussels has urged Indonesians in Belgium and Luxembourg to raise awareness, as noted in the press statement of the Indonesian Embassy in Brussels on Monday.

Seven people have died in addition to the three attackers shot dead by the police in the attacks on London Bridge and Borough Market on Saturday night (June 3).

The attackers drove a van at high speed, ramming into pedestrians on London Bridge just after 10 p.m. local time on Saturday before continuing to drive from the bridge to Borough Market.

The Indonesian Embassy in Brussels said the status of the security situation in Belgium has reached level three, or the second-highest, meaning that the terror threat is serious.

"Considering the history of terror acts in Belgium and the surrounding countries, it is crucial for Indonesians to always monitor the developments in the security situation through the local media and government," according to a press statement.

Indonesian citizens in Brussels and Luxembourg could call or seek information from the Indonesian Embassy in Brussels through hotline numbers: +32 (0) 478957214 and +32 (0) 478405728.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry had earlier confirmed that no Indonesian citizens were among the victims of an attack on the London Bridge, London, the UK.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry had released a statement here on Sunday that although no reports of Indonesian victims had been received, the Indonesian Embassy in London has continued to monitor the recent developments and communicate with the local authority of London.

The government of Indonesia condemns the attack that resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to dozens, the ministry stated.

"The government of Indonesia has expressed its condolences and deepest sympathy to all victims and families and prays for their recovery," the statement said.

Indonesia has also reemphasized its support to the government of UK in fighting and countering terrorism.(*)
