Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, Director for Complaint, Control and Administrative Sanction Affairs of KLHKs Directorate General for Legal Enforcement, said in Jakarta, Friday, that the company had violated Law No. 32 Year of 2009 on Environment Protection and Management and Government Regulation (PP) No. 101 Year of 2014 on Toxic and Hazardous Waste Management.
"KLKH has stopped the activities of the company since August 15, 2017," Ratnawati revealed.
She said the environment supervisors had found piles of about one thousand tons of medical and infectious wastes stored at an open place that were covered with only tarpaulins.
They also found in the warehouse 475 tons of clinic wastes packed in yellow plastic, 100 tons of outdated medicines and other medical wastes that had been kept since 2016.
"KLHK will act firmly against companies that violate their licenses and environment regulations," she remarked.
On the violations, she said, the KLHK had undertaken an administrative sanction against PT Jasa Medivest by stopping its activities. The sanction is contained in the Environment and Forestry Ministers Decision No.4240/Menlhk-PHLHK/PPSA/GKM.0/08/2017.
For the time being, PT Jasa Medivest may not receive waste and is required to process the existing wastes. It is also obligated to restore the conditions of the contaminated locations, where it had kept the B3 wastes.
Ratnawati also called on B3 producer companies to stop sending their wastes to PT Jasa Medivest before it had restored the contaminated locations, based on the administrative sanction order.(*)
