"The Ease of Doing Business Task Force, being formed by the government, is a solution to solving issues related to investment at the regional level, as the institution involves the local administration, which is directly led by the regional secretary," Pranoto stated here on Thursday (Nov 9).
He explained that issues still existed in obtaining investment permits at the regional level, and they have been raised by the KEK management. Such issues create uncertainty that is not in line with the vision of the government that is keen to facilitate the process of obtaining business permits.
To this end, the government has established a task force headed by the provincial secretary at the provincial level and the regency or city secretary at the district or city level. The effort is in line with Presidential Regulation No. 91 of 2017 on Accelerating the Implementation of Business.
Meanwhile, Deputy for the Acceleration of Infrastructure and Regional Development at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Wahyu Utomo stated that the government is encouraging the establishment of economic growth centers by developing KEK to improve economic distribution.
As of November 2017, the government has established 12 KEK: Arun Lhokseumawe in Aceh, Sei Mangkei in North Sumatra, Tanjung Api Api in South Sumatra, Galang Batang in Riau Islands, Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Tanjung Kelayang in Belitung, Maloy Batuta Trans Kalimantan in East Kalimantan, Bitung in North Sulawesi, Palu in Central Sulawesi, Morotai in North Maluku, and Sorong in West Papua.
"There are also 14 industrial zones and 9 national strategic tourism areas spread across Indonesia," Utomo said.
He added that the government also continues to boost the development of infrastructure, such as roads, seaports, airports, means of mass transportation, and power plants. A total of 245 projects and two flagship programs have also been included in the National Strategic Project.
Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Industrial Zones Sanny Iskandar remarked that the development of KEK and industrial areas around the world have proven to be able to boost economic growth and improve competitiveness in investment.
