"Its cargo post will be enlarged in 2018, and its passenger terminal will also be enhanced in cooperation with the private sector," he stated, while visiting Samabusa seaport, on Thursday.
The seaport is crucial for entry cargo not only for Nabire District but also for six other districts, namely Intan Jaya, Paniai, Deiyai, Dogiyai, Waropen, and Membrano Raja.
"In future, this seaport should be able to fully serve six other districts surrounding Nabire," he noted.
A partnership between the government and the private sector is necessary to speed up the renovation of Samabusa Seaport.
"There are a lot things that we need to do, and we will complete it one by one. It is good if the private sector is willing to come here and if they bring their own equipment," he noted.
Samabusa seaport is also crucial to attract investors to Nabire, he added.
The Head of State hopes that the seaport would not only serve entry cargoes but also exports of local products, such as fish, wood, ad orange.
Jokowi has been on a working visit to Nabire since Wednesday. He inspected the construction project of Douw Ataruri international airport and inaugurated 20 MW- machine gas-powered electricity plant.
Prior to visiting Samabusa seaport, the Head of State also visited Nabire Public Regional Hospital on Thursday morning.
In the afternoon, Jokowi and First Lady Iriana were scheduled to depart for Raja Ampat District, West Papua Province.
The president in on a five-day working visit to several provinces,including East Java, Central Java, Papua, and West Papua.
