Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - Heavy rains have caused floods and triggered strong winds in Bandung City of West Java Province on Thursday.

Antara reported here that 30-centimeter-deep floodwaters inundated several roads in Buah Batu, Soekarno Hatta, Caringin, Kopo, Antapani, Pasir Koja, Leuwi Panjang, and Cibaduyut.

Several motorcycle riders stopped by the roadside while awaiting the floodwaters to recede.

Meanwhile, motorcycles of some riders broke down, as water got into their vehicles` exhausts.

The strong winds also uprooted trees in some areas, such as Jalan Sekejati in Kiaracondong Sub-district and Jalan Soekarno Hatta.

The Fire Fighter Service of Bandung City has been deployed to remove three trees that had fallen in Sekejati and Soekarno Hatta.

"There is no victim due to the fallen trees," the Fire Fighter Service officer Ferdi informed Antara.

He invited people in Bandung to be vigilant of the extreme weather conditions that had caused floods, strong winds, and landslide and resulted in uprooted trees.

The officer also urged people to not venture close to riverbanks due to the rushing river stream.

Additionally, Head of Data Center, Information, and Public Relations of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho has estimated that hydrometerological disasters will still occur in 2018.

The agency estimated floods, landslides, and whirlwinds will dominate disasters during 2018.
