The matter was raised in a meeting between the Indonesian movie actors, artists, directors and film producers and the Malaysian Artists Union delegation in Jakarta, Friday.
The Indonesian side, among others, was represented by senior artists, Roy Marteen and Ati Cancer, movie directors Adisurya Abdi and Tarmizi Abka, as well as a number of producers and other film industry players.
The president of the Malaysian Artists Union, Zed Zaidi, said cooperation between the two countries is expected to increase opportunities in the Malaysian and the Indonesian film industries.
He noted cooperation on films between the two countries actually has been going on for a long time, either through joint film production, or the involvement of film artists.
In fact, he added that Indonesia and Malaysia had held a movie award event "Anugerah Serumpun" (literally means cognate award).
"With this partnership, we want to be a bridge for the two countries` film industries to move forward, and we hope that the award event `Anugerah Serumpun` can be held again," he emphasized.
The Malaysian Artists Union delegation is represented by 20 film industry players, including actors, artists, directors and producers and they are on a three-day visit from January 5 to 7.
Meanwhile, Tarmizi Abka, director, and initiator of the meeting said the gathering was expected to improve the quality of film resources of both countries.
"Through the meeting, we expect the younger generation of our film industries will be getting better and better," the director of "Jejak Cinta" remarked.
He also hoped joint events, which involve the Indonesian and Malaysian filmmakers, will continue in the future, and even include film industries from other countries.
