Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has called for stronger cooperation in the digital economy between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Korea amid increasingly complex global challenges.

He made the statement during the 26th ASEAN–Republic of Korea (ROK) Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday.

"We look forward to advancing the ASEAN–ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, facing challenges that are both pressing and increasingly complex," Prabowo stated, according to a statement from his office in Jakarta.

He underscored the importance of both sides enhancing their ties to keep their economies open, connected, and inclusive while fostering a more suitable environment for sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

"ASEAN is on track to become one of the world's most dynamic digital markets. The region's digital gross merchandise value is projected to reach US$1 trillion by 2030," he remarked, while highlighting the need to reinforce regional supply chains to seize the momentum.

Prabowo expressed confidence that by working together, ASEAN and South Korea can complement each other’s strengths to advance digital infrastructure, develop human resources, and improve the governance of artificial intelligence.

To that end, he urged both sides to strengthen existing economic cooperation mechanisms, including by fully implementing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and upgrading the ASEAN–ROK Free Trade Area.

Prabowo further stated that the ASEAN envisions becoming "a vital engine of global growth," which cannot be realized without lasting peace and stability.

"In this context, we appreciate the ROK's steadfast commitment to upholding peace and security in our region and the wider world," he added.

He reaffirmed Indonesia’s full support for stronger ASEAN–ROK collaboration, emphasizing the need to work together as partners in fostering peace, easing tensions, promoting dialogue, and building constructive engagement toward shared prosperity.
