"When I arrived here on Monday, I felt complete to have traversed Indonesia, from the westernmost to easternmost, northernmost, and now, the southernmost tip of the country," Jokowi remarked during his work visit to Rote Island on Tuesday.
The president reiterated that during his three-year term in office, he had visited Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke, and from Miangas to Rote.
Jokowi pointed out that he was the first president to have paid a visit to the southernmost island of Rote.
In the meantime, Rote Ndao District Head Leonard Haning also confirmed that Jokowi was the first president to have visited the island.
"He is the first president to visit the island of Rote," Haning noted.
Furthermore, President Jokowi emphasized that development in Indonesia should no longer be focused only on the island of Java but also Indonesia as a whole.
"Hence, I want to visit the outer islands to the eastern regions to build infrastructure and transportation, both through sea and air," the president noted.
Until now, seven dams will be built specifically in East Nusa Tenggara, of which one was scheduled to be inaugurated, while three were under construction.
Moreover, three transboundary posts (PLBN) to be constructed are PLBN Motaain in Belu District, PLBN Motamasin in Malaka District, and PLBN Wini in North Central Timor District.
In addition, road infrastructure is being built in the border areas and outer islands.
